All bananas are the same. It turns out that more than half a thousand varieties of bananas are cultivated in the world, but not all of them are edible. The municipality of La Lima in Honduras has even the largest collection of bananas in the world. It has over 470 varieties. Historically, they are all derived from three types: Maclay's banana, pointed banana and Balbis banana. Bananas differ not only in size and how they grow, but even in color. For example, a green banana is generally inedible raw; it is made into chips and boiled. There are also red bananas. And those bananas that we usually see on the shelves belong to the robusta maurice variety.

Today all bananas are genetically modified. People have become so afraid of GMO products that even bananas are considered "artificial". In fact, humans have really learned how to grow genetically modified bananas. The first crop was harvested in 2010, but it happened in Australia. The main supplier (about 90%) of bananas to the Russian market is Ecuador. And the cyclone that took place in Australia in February 2011 destroyed about 90% of the banana crop. So either nature or the Higher Forces took care of us. The use of new technologies in the cultivation of bananas was aimed at increasing the number of minerals and vitamins for further implementation in African countries. The first results were amazing. However, their share is not as large as, for example, in melons and strawberries, with their rates of 13% and 15%, respectively. And bananas can raise blood sugar levels by no more than 0.5-1.2%. So a couple of bananas a day will not give the body enough sugar to aggravate the condition of the pancreas.

Overeating bananas can lead to potassium overdose. Bananas are truly champions in potassium content. Each ripe fruit contains about 1100 mg of this element. However, in such a natural form, it does not harm health. Moreover, an adult can assimilate only 60-65% of the potassium that is contained in bananas.

Bananas prevent weight loss. It is believed that those who are on a diet should give up bananas. The reason for this myth is the sweetness of the fruit. Because of this, bananas seem to help you gain weight. In fact, the average banana contains only 95 calories. This fruit contains polysaccharide ballast substances. They are not digested or absorbed by our body, but they give a feeling of satiety.

Bananas do not cause allergies. But this statement is true. Bananas are beneficial because they are free of allergens. That is why this fruit can be included in the diet for young children. Compared to the same strawberries, the risk of an allergic reaction is reduced to zero.

Bananas are aphrodisiacs. Banana is the same aphrodisiac as other fruits - pears, cherries. Among other dishes of a romantic dinner, a banana looks natural, but here the shape of the fruit plays a role rather than its internal composition. Banana has no particular effect on the production of sex hormones. But it contains a lot of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), which stimulates the brain and increases the ability of the psyche to withstand various stresses. This is why it is recommended to eat a banana before starting a hard work session.

Bananas are a great hangover cure. This statement is only half true. Bananas can only temporarily delay the inevitable symptoms of a hangover, so they should not be considered a miraculous saving panacea. Thanks to fructose fusel oils are bound, but vitamin "C" is also required to consolidate the effect. Only the banana is not sour at all, so over time, both the headache and nausea will return.

Unripe bananas are an excellent cosmetic product. And this statement is true. Unripe bananas have glycosides and linoleic acid that can be used in masks and scrubs. These substances give a softening and tonic effect. Gruel and unripe bananas are perfect not only for oily skin, but also help with dermatitis.

Another feature of bananas is the ability to increase blood viscosity. So it is better to refuse such food for those recovering from a stroke or heart attack.

Bananas grow on palms. There are no such palms in nature on which bananas would grow, and there are no other trees. The thing is that bananas, like pineapples, by the way, are the fruits of the herb. It can reach 9 meters in height, which was the reason for the error. We are essentially dealing with berries. Wild bananas that are still found in Southeast Asia have large and hard seeds and little pulp. The man, on the other hand, domesticated the variety and began to plant those bananas that do not have seeds, but are much more fleshy.

Bananas are grown in southern countries. Few people know that the largest banana producer in Europe is not southern Italy and Spain, but northern Iceland. Here these fruits are grown in huge greenhouses, which are heated by geothermal sources. But only two degrees from here is the polar circle!

There are no special requirements for storing bananas. It is important to remember that storing bananas at room temperature will cause the skin to turn black prematurely. Better to put it in the refrigerator. There, the fruit will ripen much slower and spoil later.

To increase the shelf life of bananas, they are treated with a special gas in supermarkets. Today, almost all suppliers of exotic fruits use some kind of chemical means for long-term storage of such products. Bananas are treated with a special powder that prevents them from ripening. Those bananas that are exported are generally picked while still green. Until such fruits reach the country of destination, while they lie on store shelves, they will just have time to ripen. Some vendors also sprinkle bananas in containers with formalin, which interferes with tissue breakdown. And then the products are also wrapped in a dense layer of fabric. When the bananas arrive at the supermarket, the formalin is washed off. That is why you should beware of wet bananas. After all, their use can be simply unsafe.
